Youth Sports Massage: A New Service at Balance Mind & Body Massage

Updated: 15 hours ago

Young athletes ask a great deal of their bodies.

Between practices, games, tournaments, workouts, and conditioning, growing bodies can experience tight muscles, soreness, and limited mobility. While rest and proper medical care are essential when an injury occurs, regular massage therapy can also become part of a young athlete’s overall wellness and recovery routine.

Supporting Young Athletes Through Every Season

Balance Mind & Body Massage is now offering Youth Sports Massage, a dedicated one-hour service for active clients between the ages of 11 and 21.

Youth Sports Massage is designed for middle school, high school, and college athletes participating in recreational, school, or competitive sports.

Each massage is personalized according to the athlete’s activities and individual needs. Rather than following the same routine for every client, the therapist can focus on the areas experiencing the most tension from running, lifting, repetitive movements, contact sports or frequent training.

The goals of the session may include:

  • Reducing muscle tension

  • Improving flexibility and mobility

  • Supporting recovery between practices and games

  • Addressing tired or overworked muscle groups

  • Helping young athletes become more aware of how their bodies feel

  • Encouraging healthy recovery and self-care habits

Sports massage is not limited to one type of athlete. It may benefit runners, dancers, swimmers, gymnasts, football and soccer players, basketball players, wrestlers, baseball and softball players, cheerleaders and other active young people.

Meet Melissa Lopez Cinton, CMT

The addition of Melissa Lopez Cinton, CMT, allows Balance Mind & Body Massage to offer a therapist with a special interest in sports massage and deep tissue therapy.

Melissa focuses on reducing muscle tension, improving mobility, supporting recovery and promoting overall wellness. Every treatment is personalized to help the client work toward their individual health, activity, and personal goals.

Her interest in becoming a massage therapist began close to home.

“Helping my son stay healthy, feel stronger, and take care of himself while he plays sports inspired me to become a massage therapist.” - Melissa Lopez Cinton

That personal experience gives Melissa an understanding of both sides of youth athletics: the commitment young athletes make to their sports and the desire parents have to help them stay healthy and care for their growing bodies.

When Should a Young Athlete Receive Sports Massage?

Sports massage does not have to be reserved for after a major competition or when the athlete is already uncomfortable.

A session may be scheduled:

  • During a demanding training season

  • Between games or competitions

  • After a particularly intense event

  • Before an upcoming athletic season

  • When muscles consistently feel tight or fatigued

  • As part of a regular wellness and recovery routine

Massage pressure and techniques are always adjusted according to the young person’s comfort level, age, and individual needs.

Massage therapy should not be used to diagnose or treat an injury. Athletes experiencing sudden pain, swelling, weakness, loss of movement, or a suspected injury should first be evaluated by an appropriate medical professional.
